Djokovic Doubly Committed in Paris

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic returns to action as a dual threat at the Rolex Paris Masters.

Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic has signed up for both singles and doubles in Paris.

Djokovic will play his first match since No. 2 Daniil Medvedev shattered his dream of capturing the calendar Grand Slam with a straight-sets win in last month's US Open final.

The top-seeded Djokovic will face either Fabio Fognini or Marton Fucsovics in his opening-round Paris singles match.

In doubles, Djokovic is partnering with compatriot Filip Krajinovic in what could be a prelude to a Serbian pairing for the Davis Cup finals.

Wild cards Djokovic and Krajinovic are set to face Aussies Alex de Minaur and Luke Saville in doubles.

"He's going to play with Krajinovic, his buddy from the Davis Cup," Rolex Paris Masters tournament director Guy Forget said. "He said he would commit himself to play for the Davis Cup for his own country. This is why he wanted to play doubles here.

"We don't often see him play doubles, so we're delighted. It's rare to see a No. 1 playing a Masters 1000 in doubles.

"My analysis is the fact that he hasn't played since US Open, he's having a Masters and then the Davis Cup, I think probably he needs to have a lot of matches under his belt, he needs to have a lot of victories piling up, make sure that he plays well. This is part of the process, you know. He needs to fine-tune his game. He's playing with his buddy here. For all this, this is why I think he wanted to play doubles."

The 34-year-old Djokovic carries a 44-6 record on the season into Paris with four tournament titles on the year. Djokovic is playing for a sixth Rolex Paris Masters championship.

The only man to win all nine Masters 1000 titles, Djokovic dismissed Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-4 to capture his fifth Paris Indoors crown in 2019.
