Sole Searching: Young's Shoes Swiped From Locker

Donald Young did some major sole searching before his US Open fourth-round match today.

Young took a major step forward reaching his second US Open fourth-round appearance, but apparently not everyone was paying attention to the 68th-ranked American's inspired run.

Souvenir hunters are common at the US Open, but one was a bit premature.

Someone swiped Young's Lotto shoes and Boast shirts from his locker yesterday. Apparently, locker-room staff believed that Young—who lost his mixed doubles match with partner Taylor Townsend yesterday, but is still alive in the doubles with Michael Russell—was ousted from the tournament and cleaned out his locker.

"Unfortunately, I came to the locker room yesterday and I opened it up and it was clean. Like a couple shirts missing, all my shoes were gone, and apparently someone said I was out of the tournament so the guys thought I went home," Young said after falling to Wawrinka today. "They were taking some souvenirs."

Fortunately for Young, Asics supplied him with two pairs of kicks for today's match.

"Actually, Asics was nice enough to bring me two pair over. My mixed doubles partner contacted them and kind of got some shoes," Young said. "I wore them. I was excited to have something on my feet."

Informed of the theft after his win, Wawrinka joked "it's not my coach who took them."

Despite his fourth-round defeat there was a happy ending for his feet. Young's missing gear was returned...eventually.

"I got a pair of them back. They made it back," Young said with a smile. "They magically appeared back in the locker."
