Kyrgios: Tiafoe Can Achieve More Than Me

Nick Kyrgios is Frances Tiafoe's teammate in Laver Cup and one of his biggest supporters.

The 23-year-old Kyrgios says the 20-year-old Tiafoe has "a massive future" and can achieve more than he did as the young American matures.

"I mean, we're in two different completely parts of our career," Kyrgios said after falling to Roger Federer, 6-3, 6-2, in today's Laver Cup singles match. "Frances is still very young. You know, he's proved that he can play at the top level and he's going to have a massive future ahead of him.

"I'm in a different spot right now. But, you know, I have beaten every single person on that bench. So I know where my game is. What I brought today was not good enough, but, I know how special it is to be here with Roger and Novak. You know, those guys are some of the greatest of all time and ever will play the game."

Kyrgios was a 19-year-old wild card when he rocketed 37 aces shocking world No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the 2014 Wimbledon fourth round to become the first teenager to defeat a world No. 1 at a Slam since a 19-year-old Nadal beat Roger Federer at the 2005 Roland Garros.

The owner of four career titles, Kyrgios asserts Tiafoe, who won his first ATP title in Delray Beach last spring, has the talent to top what he's achieved.

"He hasn't made the mistakes I have made. Hopefully he doesn't," Kyrgios said. "I hope he's going to have a better career. When I see him being 23, I hope he's done more things than I have. He's certainly got the talent."
