Naomi Osaka, Serena Light Up Met Gala

By Adrianna Outlaw | Tuesday, September 14, 2021

Glam Slam champions Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams rocked the red carpet at the 2021 Met Gala in New York City last night.

The 2021 Met Gala theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” inspired fashionable expressions of joy, rebellion and classic American film with nods to movie stars ranging from Marilyn Monroe to C-3PO.

Osaka joined Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Gorman as co-chairs of the 2021 Met Gala, which is commonly called "fashion's biggest night out."

Four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka paid tribute to her roots with her gown designed in a collaborative effort with older sister Mari Osaka

In its Met Gala coverage, Vogue Magazine featured Osaka as one of its best beauty looks of the evening.

"It didn't get more fierce than Naomi Osaka, who paid tribute to her Japanese-Haitian heritage with a beauty look that centered on monochrome crimson makeup and a gravity-defying updo featuring woven plaits and fanned out, wing-like lengths," Vogue wrote in its Met Gala report.

Twenty-three time Grand Slam champion Serena and husband Alexis Ohanian were a striking couple on the carpet.

Serena sports an ombre cape designed by Gucci.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Tennis champions have been moonlighting as fashion stars lately. US Open champion Emma Raducanu's maiden major run earned the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam singles crown this coverage in Vogue.
