Historic West Side Tennis Club Saved

Once again the yuppies are trying to cozen away every last piece of American culture, replacing it poor imitations and big-box stores filled to the brim with the latest Toms of Main product and Toms shoes (they really like the name Tom). But instead of sharing shoes with those in need, Yuppies have attempted to usurp more luxury condo space in lieu of the historic West Side Tennis Club of Queens.

And yeah, the West Side Tennis Club was indeed the meeting place for oil barons and bourgeoisie, but it certainly shouldn’t be turned into homes for the ultra wealthy, looking to gentrify historic neighborhoods. I agree with the decision of the Club to forgo selling the property to a real estate agency, but at the same time, I would really like to see them do something useful with it.

If it is actually going to just sit there, as nearly half of the people in the club supposed it would and thereby voted to sell it, then I’d say sell it. But certainly don’t sell it to 1-percenters looking to make a quick buck on poorly built luxury homes, outfitted with the latest Kohler bathroom fixtures (like that sink that looks like a fossil and drains down comfortably into the drain through prepared courses or that 10-headed shower with double doors and heating lamps) and fancy tiles (like those glass ones melted from relic Titanic glassware) that make every young urban professional jump with joy.

Instead, how about you turn the West Side Tennis Club into what it is supposed to be – a tennis club. The structures are there and sure, it needs some tender loving care, but what good things don’t? So before you decide to vote again (the previous vote, by the way, was 123-123, which do not reach the 2/3 majority it needed) and sell the property, think about the children.

Plus, I bet you could get Andy Roddick to play there. Or maybe Ana Ivanovic
