A new Twitter record was set this past week, as Twitter-users sent out 7,196 tweets per second during the FIFA Women’s World Cup final between the United States and Japan.
Japan-born Kei Nishikori tweeted out, “How exciting! The Japanese Women’s Soccer team won the World Cup in an unbelievable finals! Congrats!” American Bethanie Mattek-Sands said, “Really Bummed for USA but happy for the country of Japan :)” To bring in an impartial player, Serbian-born German-resident Andrea Petkovic tweeted several times during the match (which she attended): “I’m absolutely totally unstoppably freakingly FREAKING out!!! What a game!!!” which was quickly followed by “I’m freaking watching the most exciting game in history of women’s soccer! What a lucky bastard I am!” She finally posted out this photo of the stadium, saying, “Ok, one last photo before leaving the stadion.”
But that’s soccer, so bah humbug to that. In tennis related news, that same Petkovic tweeted “At Adidas today, and look who I met... (sort of)- my Wimbi doubles partner, giving me pressure like always #AnaIvanovic”
In an unrelated way, Twitter-addict and all-around cool guy Ivo Karlovic sent out this picture with the message, “Works body colors. Pic taken by G. Dimitrov.” I think my caption would have simply read, “I’m a boat. Me and Dusky. On a boat.”
In another water-related activity, Victoria Azarenka tweeted out a photo of her about to go surfing.
Finally, British player Laura Robson tweeted out a picture of a Snoop Dogg concert in London, with the tag “Snoop Dogg dropping it like it’s hot.”
