Venus Williams Booed At Wimbledon

Venus Williams was booed by the crowd at the All England Club yesterday when she walked out late. It was a bit shocking to see such a well known tennis player show up 10 minutes late to her own match.

The rumor is that Williams purposely showed up late to prove a point. She was angry that she was put on Court 2 instead of Court 1 or the Centre Court. And in order to show her frustration, she waited 10 minutes before walking out on to the court, a way of “sticking it to the man.”

Venus, however, had a different reason why she was late.

"I didn't know the procedure for Court 2, so I was waiting on someone to get me. No one came. So eventually I just came out (laughter). Usually there's like a court escort kind of person, they come and get you."

That doesn’t make sense though, because Venus has played on Court 2 several times, so she should already know the procedure by now. She shouldn’t have made a big deal about it; her match wasn’t the most important match yesterday. Serena played Maria Sharapova on Centre Court, and Justine Henin played Kim Clijsters on Court 1. Venus’ match was the third most important match, thus she played on the third court.

I can’t see why someone would be angry about playing in a 4,000 seat court, though.
