The Australian Open always stands out as one of the more colorful Slams on the tour. Against the bright blue of the court, players can be spotted in vibrant yellows, pinks, and oranges.
In 2011, there’s no doubt that most top competitors will stick to this strategy. Three that have leaked their plans are Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
As the saying goes, when it comes to fashion “what is old, will become new” at some point. In the case of Sharapova, fans were fully treated to seeing the deep burgundy and grey wrap dress worn at the 2010 French Open because of her quick exit. Now reinvented and looking lighter than ever, the dress described by Nike Creative Director Janice Lucena is a “playful inspiration.” In the back is a boomerang design along the open racerback for breathability.
Noticeable detailing can be seen in the straps which wraps from the back to the front and loop once more to the back. The warm up jacket designed for Sharapova is a unique scooped V-Neck front that features a perforated mesh pattern at the sides and wraps around to the back.
The most important of item of them all, however, is Sharapova’s footwear. After suffering an injury to her left foot, forcing her to withdraw from the Roger’s Cup in Montreal, comfort will be a big necessity for the Russian going into the 2011 season. The Lunar Speed 3 is the perfect combination of just that. In one lightweight design, the shoe comes with arch fit technology providing extra cushioning and a close fit across the top of the foot.
No word just yet if the jacket in the video will be available. In conjunction with the Australian Open apparel release, Nike will also be adding new pieces to the Maria Sharapova line. Like this top and skirt combo, styled in the same peach as her dress and featuring a similar strap design.
Trading styles, Roger Federer will be taking more risk with colors while it appears Rafael Nadal will become tamer.
Not totally abandoning his signature polo’s, this modern approach showcases shorter plackets with no buttons. Offered in a crisp white with matte finish, the Dri-Fit jersey top comes with a contrasting yellow bonded stitching along the sleeve. However, the unique detailing comes with the Swiss cross perforation that creates extra breathability while connecting to the heritage of the player, himself. For his footwear, the Lunarlon Vapor 8 tour, redefines what it means to be a lightweight shoe with the addition of speed. For an added touch, cutout windows can be seen, exposing the flywire so consumers can see the technology that’s on their feet.
As for Rafa, his apparel may seem dull, compared to what fans are used to seeing but upon closer inspection it still shows signs of the excitement the Spaniard brings with his clothing. The red crew neck, features a flame graphic that wraps from the back of the top to the front along the left, his hitting hand. While his shorts come with a 4 way stretch and mesh gusset for breathability.

On his feet, the 26-year-old will wear the Nike Max Air Court Ballistec 3.3 features the bull insignia on the back and are set to offer less pressure on the heel. While the off center laces will provide a more comfortable feeling throughout the top of the foot.
