Look who's at the US Open

Tennis is indeed a fashionable affair, with the Venus and Serena Williams taking every opportunity to showcase their “designs,” and now Maria Sharapova holding events to debut her attire, tonight will also be the first time she wears her night dress on the court. But who knew fashionista’s and gossiping hipsters got into the sport as well?
 

At last night’s Andy Roddick vs. Janko Tipsarevic match, the stars came out, whether in support of the players or merely to seen has yet to be determined. But the most head scratching attendee of them all, my favorite Tweetie, was Kanye West. Taking a break from shooting a top secret movie in Prague that will accompany his 5^th, currently untitled, LP, West decided to take in a little bit of tennis last night. Accompanied by model and former Celebrity Apprentice contestant Selita Eubanks, the two took in the Roddick upset in true Corey Hart fashion from behind their “sunglasses at night.” Surprisingly, the guy in shades didn’t masquerade, last reference to the song, promise, with anyone and remained relatively quiet for the match.

Wearing a demure blue striped shirt and white pants West has previously admitted be a sports fan and have been previously spotted at, former, New Jersey Nets games.  The rapper was also there when basketball player Lebron James made his “decision” to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and move to South Beach to try his luck at a title with the Miami Heat, a team now synonymous with the US Open thanks to Roddick admitting that he’s a die-hard fan.

Also sharing a box with him were Gossip Girl stars and, on-again-off-again couple, Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr, apparently they’re on again. Showing no problems with PDA, Szohr had no problems with potentially offending “The West” by sitting on Westwick’s lap. Who knew tennis brought out the friskier side of people?

Ultimately, if there to support Andy Roddick, the stars were let down as Roddick was defeated by Tipsarevic in 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6. It is expected that this weekend and all of next week stars will begin to turn out in wide numbers for the Open as September 9 marks the beginning of the spring 2011 fashion week.
