challenge system
Can someone please explain the rationale behind the constantly repeated notion (by tv commentators) that players should not be allowed to check with a coach/friend/umpire/anyone in the stadium before deciding whether to challenge a call? I thought the point of the challenge system was to get the call correct - to avoid a bad call changing the outcome of a match. If a player can ask for help with a ball on the opposite sideline quickly without interrupting the flow of the match, why not allow her to do so? Look at the NFL, where coaches often even watch instant replay on stadium screens before challenging. The point is to get the call right. So what am I missing here?

RE:challenge system
It's definitely a good question to raise because ultimately, what everyone wants is to get the call right. I think the main inhibitor against allowing the player to check with someone else is that tennis is an individual sport, and it's the player's responsibility to be his own eyes and ears at all times, both out of respect for an opponent and for the game. If the player was able to confer with a coach, or some other official representative, it would really interrupt the flow of the match, which can be pivotal in changes of momentum. Granted, the NFL does have an instant replay system in place, but the number of challenges is extremely limited, and a smart opponent can run to the line and snap the ball in a hurry, nullifying a team's ability to challenge unless they make a snap decision. What sort of replay/challenge system do you have in mind that would keep the match flowing properly?

RE:challenge system
I agree, I think that the point of the linesman and the hawk-eye challenge system is to make the game more time efficient and correct. It's not fair that this element becomes a guessing mind game its self for the player. I think it would be very interesting if the player could check with another person- preferably designated or else you run the chance of people giving false information.
