The Decisive Moment
The Decisive Moments of a Champion
The 17th century Cardinal de Retz wrote “Il n’y a rein dans ce monde qui n’ait un moment decisif”
( “There is nothing in this world that does not have a decisive moment) Henri Cartier-Bresson world famous photographer later used these words to explain his pictures. If tennis champions could transfer these words into stroke play then a champion Nadal would epitomize this with his triumphs this year “the decisive moments’ It is a inbuilt subconsciousness that all great tennis champions possess. Whether they be match, break point up or down, the moment arises when the brains calculates and the body executes a stroke that will win them the point to take the match, no matter how lost the cause is. Nadal was 4-1 love down in the final set tie break against Murray when the Spaniard attacked any early opportunity that he was given. This is the difference between the young Scot who still has a tendency to wait for another moment.
Andy Murray is not alone as Roger Federer in the recent slams has failed to take his moments against Nadal. Although he did take the ball early against the Spaniard on at the O2 arena win the event. Does a champion create an aura of hesitancy with his opponent or what makes a new champion take over from the present one. Father time catches up but to truly become a champion one has to take that moment before it is lost
