The doubles title record just isn't a big deal
The Bryan Brothers are all over the news this week for winning their 62nd ATP doubles title, breaking the all-time record. But is it really a big deal, or are they just a product of the hype machine - given that they're the only American men winning anything in tennis, they're good looking twins and they have a rock band? Personally, it's hard for me to care about doubles when so many top individual players barely give it the time of day.
Look at the top 30 ATP doubles rankings, where's Fed, where's Nadal, where's A-Rod? Those guys got into tennis to compete individually and be the best. Doubles tennis is a niche sport, and while the Bryans are the best at it, they're the best in a watered-down field.

I think is apauling that doubles don't get enough recognition when it is just as hard and so fast paced. Truth is it takes special players to be good at doubles. I'm proud of the Bryans.

It may not be a huge deal compared to other titles, but it definitely is something! I met them and they're pretty nice. Go Bryan Brothers!

I have to agree with you both, doubles does get a bum rap but it's really not as appealing as watching one person, with no help, dominate over another person.

Most of your recreational tennis players play doubles, so I think it is a big deal. T.V. should show more doubles!
