Despite a troubled global economy, the Internazionali BNL d'Italia is reporting a 50 percent increase in ticket sales, and organizers said they are almost completely sold out for the tournament. Organizers said the increase in sales may be because of the tournament's decision to combine the men's and women's events.

It seems as though Juan Martin Del Potro is injured again and fairly seriously. He suffered the injury while he was playing in Madrid. Serious enough that he could have to pull out of Roland Garros in two weeks. It has been reported by La Nacion that he tore the left rectus muscle in his abdominals by eight millimeters.

Mardy Fish moved on to the second round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia after defeating Santiago Giraldo, ranked 60th, 4-6 6-2 6-2. Fish is one of three Americans left in the tournament, and he could face Ivan Ljubicic in the next round.

A number of big names were in action in Sunday's first-round action, including Spain's Fernando Verdasco, who exacted a measure of revenge against Canada's Milos Raonic with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Sixth seed Na Li beat American Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Petra Kvitova finished Dominika Cibulkova 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic was the first winner of the day against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-1, 6-2 in 51 minutes and was soon followed by all of the seeded players at the Madrid ATP Masters. World No. 4 Andy Murray had no such luck losing to Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-2.

Juan Martin del Potro has withdrawn from the Madrid this morning due to a hip injury. He was supposed to play against Rafael Nadal in a third-round match, but the pain in his left hip was enough for him to pull out of play.

Sixteenth seed Petra Kvitova waltzed into the Madrid Open quarterfinals after defeating World No. 2 Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 6-4 to tie their head-to-head series 2-2. Kvitova save seven of eight break points and broke Zvonareva four of six times. Kvitova had success over Zvonareva on clay last year in Rome.

According to the Associated Press, on Tuesday morning at 2 a.m., the police arrested an alleged stalker of Serena Williams, 40-year-old Patenema Ouedraogo, outside Williams' residence after he entered her gated community in Palm Beach Gardens. Video included.
