Mardy Fish's stay in the ATP Top 10 was a short one - just one week thanks to Spain's Nicolas Almagro. By making the semifinals of the Barcelona field, Almagro vaulted Fish for the No. 10 spot, once again giving Spain three members of the elite field, and making it another week without an American man in the Top 10.

Nothing like a win over the No. 1 player in the world to give the old ranking a kick in the pants. Germany's Julia Goerges defeated Caroline Wozniacki in Stuttgart on Sunday, and the championship pushed her up to No. 27 in the world, a leap of five spots in the latest WTA rankings.

Julia Goerges shocked the women’s tennis world as she beat out No. 1 ranked Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3, to claim the singles title in Stuttgart, Germany at the Porsche Tennis Open.

Rafael Nadal furthers his domination on clay as he beat out fellow Spaniard, David Ferrer at the Barcelona Open tournament, 6-2, 6-4. This is Nadal’s 6th win at the tournament and has a 26-1 record in Barcelona now.

After being gifted a pass through her second round match after Victoria Azarenka was forced to retire after winning the first set, world number 32, Julia Goerges, continues her run with a tough three set victory over Samantha Stosur. The number two German will next face the number one seed, Caroline Wozniacki, who eliminated top German Andrea Petkovic.

As good as current world number 6, David Ferrer, has been on clay this year (13-1), he will be going up against the only man to beat him on the surface this year, and reigning clay court king, Rafael Nadal. With both players moving rather easily through the draw, they have set up a repeat of last week's Monte-Carlo final.

World No. 56 Ivan Dodig of Croatia ruined the chances of an all Spanish Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell seminfinals after he defeated Feliciano Lopez in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. The semifinals will host Dodig versus Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer versus Nicolas Almagro. Learn more about Ivan!

The President of the United States is set to have a fund-raising dinner in conjunction with the directors of Sony.  Hosting a party will be the head of the Tennis Channel, Ken Soloman. Will this mean more national attention for tennis?  Hard to say.

Good Friday was a great Friday for world No. 1 Rafael Nadal, who cruised past Gael Monfils for a 6-2, 6-2 win in the quarterfinals of the ATP Barcelona Open. Nadal improved to 8-1 all-time against Monfils, and won his 499th career match in the process. His next opponent will be decided later today when Feliciano Lopez matches up against Ivan Dodig.

At the Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem in Fes, Morocco, the quarterfinal lineup has been written. Dinara Safina was able to defeat the No. 8 seed Alize Cornet in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Also making it to the quarters was Anastasia Pivovarova, who defeated the No. 2 seed, Yaroslava Shvedova, 6-2, 7-6(5).

Four Germans made into the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix quarterfinals in Stuttgart, Germany but only one made it to the semifinals for her first semifinal and that was 22-year-old Julia Goerges. Goerges faced another fellow German in the draw, Sabine Lisicki, and won in two sets 6-4, 6-4 to face Samantha Stosur in the semifinals.

Only one Spaniard, Albert Montanes, fell on Thursday to sixth seed Jurgen Melzer, who came off the recent high of beating Roger Federer in Monte-Carlo. However the Spanish Armada World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, fourth seed David Ferrer, eighth seed Nicolas Almagro, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and Feliciano Lopez were victorous at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.

The ITF’s Davis Cup Committee unanimously agreed that the surface meets the appropriate regulations with Rule 38 (a) of the Davis Cup Regulations for the Competition, “Surface of Courts” for the USA vs. Spain Davis Cup quarterfinal to be played in Austin, Texas July 8-10.

At the Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem, Nadia Lalami, the Moroccan underdog, upended the No. 1 seeded Aravane Rezai, 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4. Lalami, the 20-year old Moroccan native, has only won a single WTA win and only played in 4 career WTA matches (all of them first-round losses at this same tournament) but has not made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

World No. 56 Ivan Dodig of Croatia moves to the third round of the Barcelona Open 6-2, 6-4 after upsetting French Open runner-up and third seed Robin Soderling in the Swede's first match on clay this year. This is Dodig's first top ten win and revenge for the loss in Miami to Soderling.

The first two in the third round on Tuesday, eighth seed Nicolas Almagro of Spain defeated Pablo Andujar 7-5, 7-6(1) and seventh seed Gael Monfils went to three sets against Robin Haase 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2, set up successful seed play.

At the Grand Prix de SAR Le Princesse Lalla Meryem, Aravane Rezai was nearly shocked out the tournament as the No. 1 seed trailed 6-4, 4-2 against Arantxa Rus, but was able to power her way back in the second and into the third for a first round win of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Team Spain is disputing the court surface for the upcoming Davis Cup match in July 8-10 between Spain and the USA in Andy Roddick's hometown, Austin, Texas, because it is claimed to not be following the International Tennis Federation approved court surfaces.

On Monday's Day 1 of match play, at the Barcelona Open, Colombian Santiago Giraldo upset 13th seed Thomaz Bellucci 7-5, 6-3. No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal returns to Barcelona after skipping the tournament last year to potentially solidify his top place in the rankings.

Monte-Carlo was fine and dandy for Spaniards Rafael Nadal (the champ) and David Ferrer (runner-up) on Sunday, but the same couldn't be said for countryman Fernando Verdasco - who plummeted four spots and fell out of the top 10 for the first time since April 4, 2010.

Italy fell completely flat to Russia this weekend with the clear absence of the team's two strongest players, Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone. World No. 3 and Russia's No. 1 Vera Zvonareva sealed the victory when she defeated Roberta Vinci 6-4, 6-4 that gave Russia a 3-0 lead. Russia will meet the Czech Republic in the Fed Cup finals on November 5-6 in Russia.

After coming up short three times, the fourth time turned out to be the charm for Kyle McPhillips. McPhillips, the No. 13 seed, won the ITF Girls’ 18s division championship on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over No. 9 seed Gabrielle Andrews at the 44th annual Easter Bowl USTA Junior Spring National Championships taking place at Rancho Las Palmas Resort.

The World No. 1 starts the clay court season on top and breaking records- Rafael Nadal defeated fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 6-4, 7-5 on the red clay courts of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.  As for breaking records, he is the first player to collect his 7th title in a row at the same tournament and win 19 Masters' title.

If it wasn't bad enough for defending champions Italy that reigning French Open champion, Francesaca Schiavone, and world number 20, Flavia Pennetta are not competing in this weekends semifinal, but the Italian team is facing Russia, spearheaded by world number 3. Kyle McPhillips just has to be in “tennis-mode” and everything will be OK. The 16-year-old from Willoughby, Ohio, was definitely there on Thursday, ousting unseeded Ellen Tsay, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, on Thursday at the 44th annual Easter Bowl USTA Junior Spring National Championships taking place at Rancho Las Palmas Resort.

As players moved on to the semi-finals of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters series, one big shake-up is the loss of Roger Federer, who shockingly lost today against Jurgen Melzer, 6-4, 6-4. The world No. 9 defeated the world No. 3 moves on to his first ever ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-final, where he will take on the fourth-seeded David Ferrer.
