Defending champion and No. 1 seed Bjorn Fratangelo won easily in his opening match in the boys’ ITF 18s division while there was no shortage of big upsets on the girls’ side on Tuesday at the 44th annual Easter Bowl USTA Junior Spring National Championships taking place at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort.

The men of Spain will reign on Wednesday, as five of Espana's best take the court. Unfortunately, four of them are paired against one another. But any of the quartet would gladly take that assignment over the one facing Finland's Jarkko Nieminien, who faces a man who hasn't lost at Monte-Carlo since 2003.

Following in falling seed, Mikhail Youzhny's, steps, twelfth seed and recently coach-less Jo- Wilfried Tsonga of France lost to 32-year-old and resident Ivan Ljubicic at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters on Tuesday, 7-6(2), 6-4. Canadian Milos Raonic showed that he is not just a hard-court wonder when he defeated Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-4, 7-5.

Kim Clijsters might be out of the French Open after injuring her right ankle at her cousin’s wedding this past weekend. Her website said the injury would keep her out for at least four to six weeks.

Caroline Wozniacki's once-tentative hold on the No. 1 ranking in the world has now become a vise-like grip. By winning at Charleston on Sunday, and with No. 2 Kim Clijsters limited by injury, Wozniacki extended her points lead over her closest rival to more than 1,800 (9,930 to 8,115).

On Sunday, in his first final, wild card Ryan Sweeting made America proud by winning his first ATP Tour Singles Title at the age of 23 at Houston's US Men's Clay Court Championships. He defeated the sixth seed Kei Nishikori in a windy match 6-4, 7-6(3).

On Saturday afternoon at the US Men's Clay Court Championships, wildcard Ryan Sweeting stepped in to take out qualifier Ivo Karlovic 7-6(3), 6-3 for his first ATP World Tour final in Houston. Sixth seed Kei Nishikori of Japan grinded out long- rally matches against seventh seed Pablo Cuevas to win 6-3, 7-5.

While world number one and top seed, Caroline Wozniacki is expected to make deep runs into any tournament she enters, the same cannot be said for 56th ranked, and unseeded, Elena Vesnina from Russia. Quietly making her way through the draw, Vesnina has booked a match up with the top seed in the finals of the first clay court tournament of the season.

21-year-old Kei Nishikori dominated the court against veteran to the tour and first seed, Mardy Fish, 6-3, 6-2, at the US Men's Clay Court Championships. Fish has come off the high of being crowned the new USA No. 1 but could not cut it on Friday night and will not break into the top 10 in next week's South African Airways 2011 ATP Rankings.

6'10'' Ivo Karlovic has hit a total of 94 aces since he has been in Houston (out of the 290 aces he has hit this year alone) and used 24 aces to defeat fellow giant and friend 6'9'' John Isner 7-6(2), 6-7(2), 7-6(9) at the US Men's Clay Court Championships.

Roger Federer is planning on getting dirty as he gets ready for clay season. Federer arrived in Monte Carlo this week and posted on his Facebook, “Arrived in Monte Carlo yesterday…on my way to another practicesession. Time for the clay court season!” along with an accompanying photo by the Rolex court.

On Friday, 6'9'' John Isner will face 6'10" Ivo Karlovic in Houston for a battle of the giants. Their head-to-head series is 1-1, however, Isner won their last meeting in 2010 in Memphis. They meet in the quarterfinals of the US Men's Clay Court Championships.

The Fed Cup Semifinals is kicking off April 16-17 with the exception of the match in Japan which has been postponed until July 16-17. The teams are missing a few key members though!

On the green clay of Charleston, SC, it was business as usual for many of the top seeds including current and former world number ones Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic. Also advancing easily was Samantha Stosur, who has had trouble so far in 2011.

World No. 93 Ryan Sweeting defeated second seed Sam Querrey for the second time in 2011- this time in three sets 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. This puts Sweeting up 2-1 in head-to-head series against fellow American Querrey.

Normally, being seeded in a tournament is a positive thing. Potential first round bye, potentially lesser ranked opponents, but that has not been the case in Morocco today.

The American of the night was 31-year-old James Blake with a roaring Texan crowd behind him while outplaying Argentine Carlos Berlocq 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4. Berlocq was the seventh seed but was broken four out of ten break points by Blake who saved 90% of break points.

Today is a great day for American Men’s Doubles, as the likes of John Isner, Sam Querrey, the Bryan Brothers and Ryan Harrison all take the court. Recently, the Bryan Brothers have fallen out of the No. 1 place worldwide, but are also coming off a recent Grand Slam title in Australia and helped bring home a first-round win at the Davis Cup.

Roddick’s second-round upset at Miami plunged him six spots to No. 15 after he won the event last year.  Mardy Fish moved up four spots to No . 11 with his trip to the event’s semifinals, a new career-best, and is just 224 points behind  a spot in the Top 10.

The 2011 Sony Ericsson Open Tournament was certainly one to write home about as Rafael Nadal and Novak DJokovic played for over three hours, with Djokovic winning out 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.

Much like Indian Wells two weeks ago, the Sony Ericsson Open is getting the very best when it comes to a final day showdown – the two best players in the world going head to head.  Early this afternoon, world No. 1 Rafael Nadal will try to avenge his BNP Paribas Open final loss to No. 2 Novak Djokovic, who is off to a 23-0 start to the 2011 season.

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi came out the victor during the Men’s Double Championships at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Saturday afternoon. The doubles team beat out Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, 6-7, 6-2, 10-5.

The Sony Ericsson Open has yelled itself to a close for the women, as Victoria Azarenka wipes a flummoxed Maria Sharapova, 6-1, 6-4. In a fierce display of both shrill shrieking and some amazingly youthful tennis, Azarenka has been crowned champion in Miami.

Novak Djokovic squared off and Mardy Fish in a match to see how will face either Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer in the finals. Novak Djokovic, on an unbelievable winning streak so far for all of 2011, soundly and swiftly defeated the American challenger, 6-3, 6-1.

A Mallorcan, a King, a Djoker and a Fish walk into a bar … Sounds like a good Irish joke, or perhaps the lyrics to a Steve Miller ballad. Either way, it’s making for one heck of a final four to the Sony Ericsson Open. College basketball might make headlines, but we’ll take the three best players in the world and the newly-minted top-ranked American any day of the week.
