New Haven lost title sponsor Pilot Pen at the conclusion of this year's tournament, but the US Open Series event is likely to remain at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale. Tournament officials will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow where they are expected to announce the combined ATP and WTA tournament will remain in New Haven with joint sponsorship provided by the USTA, the corporate community, Yale and a a local benefactor, according to the New Haven Register.

The Moscow draw is now devoid of Russia's best players. World No. 9 Mikhail Youzhny pulled out of the Kremlin Cup due to a virus infection. Youzhny's departure comes on the same day defending champion Nikolay Davydenko was upset by World No. 71 Pablo Cuevas, 7-6(6), 7-6(5).

Tennis' tie-break king conquered the Kremlin Cup champion in a pair of breakers. Pablo Cuevas, the best tie break player on the ATP Tour, tripped top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko, 7-6(6), 7-6(5), to advance to the Moscow quarterfinals for the second straight year. Cuevas raised his record to an ATP-best 13-1 in tie breakers this season.

Avid boxing fan Andy Murray has hit the canvas and left a distinctive mark in the process. In celebration of Murray’s qualification for the ATP World Tour Finals, the ATP has released Murray's self-portrait, created using paint-covered tennis balls, to mark his participation in this year’s season-ending event.

Victoria Azarenka came face-to-face with her male doppelganger in a Minsk exam last week. Today, Azarenka withstood a Moscow test to secure her spot in the season-ending WTA Tour Championships in Doha. The second-seeded Azarenka survived 11 double faults and saved 18 of 25 break points to overcome Andrea Petkovic, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, in a Kremlin Cup round of 16 win that booked her berth in Doha for the second straight season.

Pete Sampras' first trip to China will feature his first meeting against senior circuit newcomer Paradorn Srichaphan. At the age of 31, Paradorn might seem a little young for the ATP Champions Tour, but the man who once beat Andre Agassi at Wimbledon has been drawn into the same round-robin group as Sampras in the Chengdu Open in China, which starts on Thursday.

It was a season in which stars realigned on the WTA Tour. Serena Williams played just six tournaments, but won two Grand Slam titles before a foot injury sidelined her, costing her the World No. 1 ranking. Caroline Wozniacki succeeded Serena as new World No. 1, 29-year-old Francesca Schiavone became the first Italian woman to win a major as she swept Samantha Stosur in the French Open final and Kim Clijsters solidified her status as the toughest tennis mom in the world in successfully defending her US Open championship.

Patrick Rafter spent his career as a devoted Davis Cup player and will now try to lead Australia back to Davis Cup glory. The former World No. 1 has been named Australia's new Davis Cup captain. Rafter will join forces with legendary Aussie coach Tony Roche to try to lead Australia back to the 16-nation World Group for the first time since 2007.

Serena Williams has largely limited her tennis activities to announcing a series of withdrawals since she won Wimbledon in July. The 13-time Grand Slam champion stepped out the rest of her season today in officially withdrawing from the WTA Tour Championships in Doha this month and the Fed Cup final next month. Williams said she "re-tore the tendon" in her right foot and underwent a procedure to repair it, effectively ending a season in which she played just six tournaments, winning both the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

The foot injury that forced Agnieszka Radwanska to prematurely end her season will prevent her from playing the 2011 Australian Open in January. The 14th-ranked Radwanska will undergo surgery for a stress fracture in her foot and is expected to miss at least three months, according to a report in the Polish Times, republished by the AP.

Russians repelled two of the top five seeds at the Kremlin Cup today. World No. 68 Anna Chakvetadze, a former Kremlin Cup champion, beat third-seeded Li Na, 6-4, 6-2 and compatriot Elena Vesnina edged fifth-seeded Flavia Pennetta, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Lleyton Hewitt's road to the Australian Open will run through Kooyong. The 54th-ranked Hewitt has signed on to play the AAM Kooyong Classic set for January 12-15th. Hewitt joins defending champion Fernando Verdasco, Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych, Russia's Mikhail Youzhny and Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils.

You might think he's more prepared for the AARP than the ATP, but more than a quarter century after his Vienna debut, Thomas Muster has been awarded a wild card to play next week's Bank Austria Tennis Trophy tournament. It will be the first ATP-level event in more than 11 years for the 43-year-old Austrian, who earned ATP Comeback Player of the Year honors in 1990 and is testing the comeback waters again now, 15 years after winning the French Open.

The Cup clash of Grand Slam champions between Wimbledon winner Serena Williams and French Open champion Francesca Schiavone may not happen in next month's Fed Cup final, but the pair could meet in the Hopman Cup in January. The Hopman Cup draw was conducted today and the second-ranked American team of Serena and John Isner is in Group B along with Italy, Great Britain and France.

Weekend champions are this week's doubles partners in Luxembourg. Linz champion Ana Ivanovic and Yanina Wickmayer, who won the ITF Torhout title in her native Belgium yesterday, will play doubles together at the $220,000 Luxembourg Open. The wild card doubles team will play Chanelle Scheepers and France's Aurelie Vedy in the first round.

In a battle of the ages, youth prevailed. Tamarine Tanasugarn defeated 40-year-old Kimiko Date Krumm, 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-1 in a thrilling three hour, seven-minute Osaka final. The 33-year-old Thai claimed her fourth career title. With a combined age of 73, the two veterans — two of Asia's most recognizable female athletes — were playing the oldest known final in the history of women's tennis.

Playing some of his best tennis of the season, Murray collected his sixth career Masters 1000 title with today's 6-3, 6-2 win over Federer in the the Shanghai Rolex Masters final.

Match point came again and this time, Roger Federer finished the job.  A month removed from their dramatic five-set US Open semifinal, Federer and Novak Djokovic squared off again today with Federer posting a 7-5, 6-4 victory in one hour, 42 minutes to advance to the Shanghai final and avenge his US Open loss.

The Osaka final shapes up as a battle of the ages. Kimiko Date Krumm, 40, and 33-year-old Tamarine Tanasurgan will square off in Sunday's HP Open final. With a combined age of 73 years, it is the oldest known final in Sony Ericsson WTA Tour history. Date Krumm is bidding to make history as the first 40-something to win a WTA Tour title. Currently, Billie Jean King, who won the 1983 Birmingham crown at 39 years, 7 months, is the oldest title winner in WTA Tour history.

IMG owner Ted Forstmann personally courted Roger Federer to join the sports management company. Now a lawsuit filed by Agate Printing alleges Federer personally provided Forstmann with inside information that prompted the IMG owner to quadruple bets on Federer's matches, according to a TMZ report. Forstmann's attorney is prepared to present evidence of an extortion attempt by Agate, while Federer flatly refuted any involvement in comments he made in Shanghai today.
