Last week it was Alexander Zverev who turned heads with his talents, could it be Borna Coric of Croatia this week?

Rankings Report: Zverev Cracks Top 200

The former junior No. 1 and junior U.S. Open champion notched his first ATP main draw win on Monday at the Vegeta Croatia Open Umag, taking down France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 6-2, 6-4.

The World No. 230 also notched a victory over Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz in Davis Cup play earlier this season, but until Monday he had lost his three previous tour-level main draw tilts, all in three sets.

Coric was fast out of the gates against Roger-Vasselin, breaking in the opening game and outplaying the Frenchman from the baseline with steady hitting and excellent movement.

Coric saved all five break points he faced on the day, and he broke three times on eleven opportunities to secure a place in the second round in 98 minutes.

Coric will face either Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos or Croatia’s Ante Pavic in the second round.

Coric was the ATP’s highest-ranked 17-year-old until last week, when he was passed by Zverev, who rose to No. 161 in the world thanks to his semifinal run in Hamburg. Zverev is also in the Umag draw and will face Albert Montanes in the first round.
