17-Year-Old Keys Qualifies for Main Draw at Cincy

By Chris Oddo

(August 12, 2012)--Madison Keys, who became the seventh-youngest WTA player to win a main draw match at 14 years, 48 days old in 2009, has qualified for the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

Keys, who was granted a wildcard into qualifying, defeated Timea Babos 6-3, 6-0 on Sunday.

The 17-year-old has lost all three main draw matches she has played in 2012, but fine recent form has propelled her to the semifinals of the Lexington challenger and the quarterfinals of the Vancouver challenger in the last two weeks.

The 5'10" Illinois native is currently ranked at a career-high No. 158 in the world.

Vania King, Yaroslava Shvedova, Urszula Radwanska and Bethanie Mattek-Sands were also among the 12 players who earned spots in the main draw today.

Mattek-Sands, currently ranked 234, has only won one WTA main draw singles match since February.

Jesse Levine was the lone American man to make it through qualifying. He will join Sergiy Stakhovsky, Marinko Matosevic, Ivan Dodig, Paul-Henri Mathieu, Yen-Hsun Lu and one other player in the main draw.
