Alexander Zverev became the first 17-year-old to win a match at the 500-level in five years on Tuesday in Hamburg, taking out Robin Haase, 6-0, 6-2, in 58 minutes.

The German saved both break points he faced to dismiss Haase and set up a second-round clash with Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny.

Fresh off his first challenger title last month in which he beat three top 100 players in Bruanschweig, the 2014 Australian Open Boys champion has risen over 400 spots in the rankings of late to No. 285.

The last 17-year-old to win at the 500-level was Grigor Dimitrov, who defeated Tomas Berdych in 2009 at Rotterdam (17-year-old Thanasi Kokkinakis won a match at the Australian Open earlier this year as a wild card).

According to The Changeover, Zverev is one of only six active players to have claimed a Challenger title at an age so young.

Elsewhere in Hamburg, 20-year-old Dominic Thiem took down Marcel Granollers after saving a match point, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Top-seeded David Ferrer and third-seeded Tommy Robredo also were victorious.
