A day after the German wild card became the first 17-year-old to win at the 500-level on the ATP tour in five years, Alexander Zverev has become the youngest player on the ATP tour to notch a win against a top 20 player in over ten years.

"I can't explain my emotions right now," Zverev told ATPWorldTour.com, after defeating Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny, 7-5, 7-5. "I don't know if I am dreaming. I am really happy with the way I am playing and I am really happy to have won against a player who has been in the Top 10. One or two points mattered in both sets. I played some great points at the right moments."

Zverev, this year’s Australian Open boys’ singles champion, had never won a tour-level match prior to this week.

The German broke serve four times on eleven opportunities, and will face Colombian Santiago Giraldo in the third round.

Richard Gasquet, who defeated No. 11-ranked Nicolas Massu at the Portugal Open in 2004, was the last 17-year-old to defeat a top 20 player.

19th-ranked Youzhny drops to 10-14 on the season. The former world No 8 owns 448 career wins.
