Tomas Berdych is ramping up his efforts to land Ivan Lendl as a part of his team. The world No. 7 told reporters on Sunday in Beijing that he’s scheduled a meeting with the Czech legend, to be held in Shanghai after Berdych finishes this week's Shanghai Masters.

“We are meeting after my tournament in Shanghai,” said Berdych. “So I have a meeting with Ivan. That's all I can say pretty much right now.”

Lendl parted ways with Andy Murray this spring after helping guide the Scot to two Grand Slam titles and an Olympic Gold Medal. He has said that he is not interested in any specific coaching gigs at the moment, but also has left the door open to connecting if the fit is right.

After falling in the US Open quarterfinals to Marin Cilic, Berdych expressed interest in working with Lendl, saying, “Well, I think it's something which I was thinking about definitely. I think just needs probably the right time and timing to make it happen. Let's see. I hope the time is going to come up. Fingers crossed.”

According to the Guardian, Lendl offered to following words prior to the US Open to British reporters about the possibility of taking on a new job.

“People ask me if I’m going to coach again,” he said. “Maybe eventually if the situation is right. But the time now is not right.”

With Berdych, who will turn 30 next September, clearly anxious to work with Lendl, and a meeting now set, that time could be sooner rather than later.
