10 years after his last appearance at the Swiss Indoors Basel, Rafael Nadal got his first win at the event. The Spaniard walloped Italy’s Simone Bolelli, 6-2, 6-2, to reach the second round and claim his first ever victory on Swiss soil.

Nadal hit 13 winners against 6 unforced errors and did not face a break point over the course of the comprehensive victory. The world No. 3, who is dealing with a case of appendicitis, is said to be unsure about whether or not he’ll cut his season short after Basel or attempt to play through the pain using aggressive antiobiotics over the rest of the season.

On Monday he looked to be in fine form.

Nadal improves his 2014 record to 47-10 with the victory and will face either Pierre Hugues-Herbert or Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the second round.
