A rematch of the Wimbledon ladies' final at the Wuhan Open will have big implications for the year-end WTA championships coming up in Singapore.

ATP: Nadal Returns to Asia After Summer Absence

Eugenie Bouchard and Petra Kvitova survived a week of upsets as each claimed their place in Saturday's final at the new WTA event. Not only is the title there at stake, but the winner will also automatically qualify for the upcoming WTA Championships in Singapore.

No. 3 seed Kvitova, the highest seed left in the draw, earned her spot after getting through a tough second set in her semifinal against Elina Svitolina. Kvitova easily took the first set, but had trouble in the second.

Kvitova, who lost to Svitolina earlier this year in Cincinnati, relinquished a break lead in the second set. But Kvitova would get back on track and soon closed out the 6-3, 7-5 win.

The eighth-seed Bouchard faced off against Caroline Wozniacki in the second semifinal. This first-time meeting between the two top ten players went in the direction for the Canadian right from the start.

Converting five out of nine break point opportunities, Bouchard raced past Wozniacki 6-2, 6-3.

"I think I played very aggressively, and it was all about trying to maintain it," Bouchard said to WTA.com. "Of course I expected some resistance, and she definitely made me fight for every point, but I was happy with the way I was serving and stepping in and the way I kind of regathered by concentration. I feel like I played very, very well, maybe up there with Wimbledon, maybe better."

Bouchard will want to play better than she did in the Wimbledon final that found her mainly a passenger to Kvitova's non-stop ride to her second Grand Slam title.

Kvitova, who practiced with Bouchard earlier in the week, is looking forward to the match.

"It's going to be nice to play Genie in the final, so we can have a repeat match of the final at Wimbledon. She's a very good mover and plays very aggressively from the baseline,” Kvitova said. “My first practice here was with her, so it's quite funny, and it's always nice."
