Petra Kvitova is getting closer to the Wuhan Open finals as well as a spot in the year-end WTA tournament in Singapore.

The highest seed left in what's been an upset-filled week at the new WTA event, Kvitova continued her impressive form when she met France's Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals. Though Garcia posted two upset wins earlier over Venus Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska, her opponent today proved too strong. The No. 3 seed Kvitova never lost her serve en route to a 6-3, 6-4 win.

"I know Garcia had a great week here, that she beat Venus and Aga 7-6 in the third. You always have to be prepared for a fight," Kvitova said to WTA.com. "I knew that she can play really well, and that she can serve well and play very aggressively from the baseline, so I knew that I had to be ready for her."

Now Kvitova is just two match wins away from being the fourth player to qualify for the upcoming year-end championships in Singapore.

"Hopefully I'm going to be there," Kvitova said. "I've heard a lot of positive things about Singapore and I think it's going to be great - I'm really looking forward to it if I qualify."

But first, there's the Wuhan semifinals. Next for Kvitova will be Elina Svitolina who reached her first ever premier final four. She knocked out No. 7 seed Angelique Kerber 6-4, 7-6(3).

Bouchard and Wozniacki Set for Semis

A first-time meeting between two of the tour's biggest stars is set in the second semifinal.

Canada's Eugenie Bouchard has avoided being an upset victim herself this week. The No. 6 seed reached the semifinals with a 6-3, 7-5 win over France's Alize Cornet.

No. 8 seed Caroline Wozniacki battled against qualifier Timea Bacsinszky in their quarterfinal. Bacsinszky, who earlier beat Maria Sharapova, kept right with Wozniacki on the baseline until the very end.

Wozniacki, securing a late break in the final set, closed out the 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.

Bouchard and Wozniacki will now face each other for the first time in the semifinals.
