The victory marks Lisicki’s first title since 2011. She had dropped three consecutive finals—all in 2013—prior to her breakthrough this week.

The top-seeded German, who took a wild card into the event just a few days before it began, hammered seven aces and won 26 of 38 first serve points in the 78-minute victory.

She won seven games in a row from 5-1 down in set one, and 12 of the final 15, and did not face a break point in the second set. Lisicki, after a sluggish start to 2014, has now won 15 of her last 20 matches, in addition to setting the record for the fastest serve in WTA history, at 131 MPH.

Pliskova her twin sister Kristyna Pliskova defeated Patricia Mayr-Achleitner and Arina Rodionova to take the doubles title later in the day, saving a match point down 10-9 in the match tie-break to win, 6-2, 2-6, 12-10.
