Japanese qualifiers put seeds to the test in Stanford today.

Agnieszka Radwanska and Karolina Pliskova both solved the tricky problems they posed.

Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki wasn't as successful. Varvara Lepchenko dispatched the two-time U.S. Open finalist, 6-4, 6-2. Wozniacki was 4-0 lifetime against the left-handed American, including a 6-0, 6-1 thrashing in their last meeting in Miami last year.

Lepchenko will play German Mona Barthel for a semifinal spot.

The fourth-seeded Pliskova is projected to break into the Top 10 for the first time when the new rankings are released on Monday. But she had her hands full with ageless Kimiko Date-Krumm for one set.

The 44-year-old Japanese held set points in the 10th game of the opener, but Pliskova reeled off nine of the final 11 games in a 7-5, 6-2 victory. She will take on Ajla Tomljanovic next.

Radwanska won 12 of the final 14 games rallying past Misaki Doi, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0, into the quarterfinals.

It is Radwanska's fourth straight quarterfinal following her French Open first-round loss to 83rd-ranked Annika Beck.

Bidding for her first title since Montreal last summer, the second-seeded Radwanska will play Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinals.

The fifth-seeded Kerber conquered Ana Konjuh, 6-4, 6-3.  Radwanska is 5-4 lifetime versus Kerber; the pair have split their last four meetings.
