Jack Sock was nearing the point of no return when he blasted his way right back into the match.

Down a set and 2-4, Sock was staring down two break points to Richard Gasquet. He saved both with a pair of backhands, sparking a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-4 comeback win.

Sock's triumph over the 13th-ranked Frenchman is his first Top 15 win since he defeated 11th-ranked Grigor Dimitrov in the Roland Garros first round.

Sock set up an all-American quarterfinal with Steve Johnson, who upset Dimitrov, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in 91 minutes. Johnson avenged a Wimbledon second-round loss to Dimitrov to advance to the Washington, D.C. quarterfinals for the second straight year.

Dimitrov, who took treatment for an apparent shoulder strain during the match, withdrew from his scheduled doubles match with partner Mardy Fish due to the injury.

U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic and runner-up Kei Nishikori moved closer toward a potential semifinal showdown.

Cilic maintained his mastery of Sam Querrey, squeezing out a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) decision to raise his record to 4-0 against the 13th-seeded American.

Nishikori is known for his return game, but his serve was sharp today helping him reach his 11th quarterfinal of the season. Nishikori won 29 of 32 points played on his first serve and did not face a break point defeating 16th-seeded Leonardo Mayer, 6-4, 6-4.

The second-seeded Nishikori will face big-serving Australian Sam Groth, who slammed 20 aces in a 6-3, 6-4 sweep of seventh-seeded Feliciano Lopez.
