The third-seeded Spaniard became the first from his country to win the title in Zagreb, easing past his Italian opponent, 7-6(4), 6-3 in one hour and 37 minutes.

Garcia-Lopez hammered 25 winners and broke Seppi’s serve twice in five opportunities to gain a share of the ATP’s win total lead with 10. The 31-year-old rallied back from 4-1 down in the first-set tiebreaker, taking lung-busting 47-stroke rally along the way.

Seppi would break in the fifth game of the second set to enjoy a brief lead, but Garcia-Lopez broke straight away then reeled off four straight games to close out his fourth career title.
