Hingis, with her partner Leander Paes, claimed the Australian Open mixed doubles title on Sunday. It was the first time Hingis and Paes played together as a team.

Hingis and Paes faced off against Kristina Mladenovic of France and Canada's Daniel Nestor in the final and won it 6-4, 6-3.

Though retiring from singles several years ago, Hingis made a return to doubles with great success. She reached the US Open women's doubles final with Flavia Pennetta last year.

Hingis won the Australian Open singles title three times from 1997 to 1999. She also won the women's doubles title four times and the mixed doubles in 2006.

"After 20 years being back on that court, like I said in my speech, who would have thought. It's not even like the cherry on top, it's more than that to be there and to be able to hold another trophy with Leander. It's more than I could ever dream of, yeah," Hingis said on her title win.

The 41-year-old Paes complimented Hingis by saying, "It's the first Grand Slam I've ever won out of my 15 that I've never lost a set and that's thanks to this young lady here. The smarts, the intelligence is what stands out."

Paes won the Australian Open men's doubles title with Radek Stepanek in 2012.

Hingis was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2013.
