For the first time since 2004, American women have landed three women in the quarterfinals at SW19. CoCo Vandeweghe upset last month’s French Open runner-up Lucie Safarova in straight sets, 7-6(1), 7-6(4), to reach her first quarterfinal at any major, while Madison Keys rebounded from a sluggish start to ease past Olga Govortsova, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Keys and Vandeweghe will join Serena Williams, who defeated her sister in straight sets on Monday, equaling a feat that was last achieved by Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati and Serena Williams eleven years ago.

“I think it’s definitely a mix,” said Keys. “We’re all really close and we are always really excited to see each other do well…. It’s motivating to see when someone can get into the second week of a Grand Slam, you’re thinking ‘If she can do it than I can do it’—it just makes you work that much harder.”

Vandeweghe will face Maria Sharapova in the quarterfinals, while Keys will face Agnieszka Radwanska.

Serena Williams, bidding to win her sixth Wimbledon and 21st Grand Slam title, will face Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals.

Azarenka put an end to Bencic’s brilliant grass court season by downing the 18-year-old, 6-2, 6-3. The Belarussian will face Williams for the third time this year. On each occasion she took Williams to three sets, and even had match points in Madrid before losing 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(1). Williams holds the 16-3 edge vs. Azarenka, including 2-0 at Wimbledon.

Maria Sharapova reached her first Wimbledon quarterfinal since 2011 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Zarina Diyas. The winner of the Sharapova-Vandeweghe match will face the Williams-Azarenka winner in the semis.

Elsewhere on the women’s side on a busy Monday at Wimbledon, Agnieszka Radwanska eased past Jelena Jankovic, 7-5, 6-4, to earn her sixth victory in eight career matches with the Serb, while Timea Bacsinszky battled back from a set down to reach her first Wimbledon quarterfinal with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Romania’s Monica Niculescu.
