The pair have met in four Wimbledon finals (2002, 2003, 2008, 2009) and one semifinal (2000), with Serena Williams claiming three of five, including three of four finals.
This year Serena Williams became the first woman since 2001 (Capriati) to win the first two majors of a calendar year when she defeated Lucie Safarova in French Open final. The 20-time major champion has won the last three majors and is bidding to become the first woman to win the calendar-year Grand Slam since Steffi Graf in 1988.
If the seeds hold, Williams will face Ana Ivanovic in the quarterfinals, but Victoria Azarenka or Carla Suarez Navarro will attempt to stand in Ivanovic’s route to the quarterfinals.

Third-seeded Simona Halep could face Sabine Lisicki in the round of 16, while fifth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki could square off with Angelique Kerber in the round of 16.
