Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki made light work of rising German Carina Witthoeft at the BMW Malaysian Open on Friday, racing past the 20-year-old in just 72 minutes to set up a semifinal with Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Tapei.

"We had a lot of tight games early on, but I managed to play well in the important points, and that made the difference," Wozniacki said afterwards, according to WTAtennis.com. "Carina is a young and upcoming player, and she was playing well… I think we'll be seeing lots of her in the future."

Witthoeft, who won her first career Grand Slam match this January when she upset Carla Suarez Navarro in the Australian Open’s first round, was playing her first tour-level quarterfinal.

Hsieh, a wild card in Kuala Lumpur, is currently ranked 189 in the world. She upset Casey Dellacqua in the first round. The former Kuala Lumpur champion had not reached a tour-level semifinal since 2012 prior to this week.

She defeated Russian qualifier Elizaveta Kulichkova, 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-0 on Friday.

Fourth-seeded Jarmila Gajdosova defeated 6th-seeded Kurumi Nara to set up a semifinal with Alexandra Dulgheru, who defeated Germany’s Julia Goerges in two tight sets.
