Andy Murray won his 10th consecutive clay-court match on Wednesday in Rome, easing past Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, 6-4, 6-3, to book a spot in the third round of the Internazionali BNL D’Italia.

The Scot played a clean match against the hard-serving Chardy, breaking on three of five opportunities and saving the only two break points he faced in the first set.

"My legs were a bit tired at the beginning," said Murray, according to ATPWorldTour.com. "But then I started to feel better after the first few games. For me, I felt like I played a really good match. He served big for the first set and a half. It was tough for me.”

Also in the top half of the draw, 5th-seeded Kei Nishikori inched closer to a quarterfinal matchup with Novak Djokovic by defeating Jiri Vesely, 7-6(3), 7-5. Nishikori claimed his 30th win of the season and improved to 9-1 on clay.
