Andy Murray cruised through a Day 2 tussle with Facundo Arguello in Paris on Monday to reach the second round at Roland Garros.

Andy Murray—call him clay juggernaut—kept rolling on the red dirt of Roland Garros on Day 2, notching his 11th consecutive win on clay with a takedown of lucky loser Facundo Arguello, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

“I found it difficult at the beginning,” said Murray, who hit 21 winners and converted 6 of 8 break points. “Then I felt, you know, when the wind died down a bit in the second and third set, I felt that the level of tennis was better.”

Though it was difficult, Murray was pleased to get through without any fuss. “The No. 1 goal is to get through,” he said. “That's the most important thing… If you get dragged into five-set matches or long four-set matches because you're not playing that well, that can have, you know, there are consequences. You can get tired later in the tournament if that happens. So ideally you want to win as best you can and hopefully play well from the beginning.”

Murray will next face either Joao Sousa or Vasek Pospisil, and he’s got a third-round encounter with a Dangerous Nick Kyrgios awaiting. Kyrgios bulled past Denis Istomin, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the second round in Paris for the second time.

4th-seeded Tomas Berdych also advanced on Day 2, 6-0, 7-5, 6-3 over Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka.

“I'm feeling well,” Berdych said. “I'm feeling physically, mentally strong, and that's the best possible start that I can have. Just now be patient, keep working for the two weeks, and try to go as far as I can. Dominic Thiem, Fabio Fognini and Thanasi Kokkinakis were also among the Day 2 winners.
