There was never any doubt. And hardly even a challenge.

Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza won the WTA Finals title—their first as a team—with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro, ending a banner season with their 22nd consecutive win and 9th title.

Hingis and Mirza saved three of four break points and broke five times on eleven opportunities. They won the first eight games of the match before being broken in the third game of set two when a Hingis backhand sailed long.

The World No. 1 pairing then stretched the lead to 4-1 before Muguruza held in a protracted game for 4-2.

Muguruza and Suarez Navarro held again to get to 5-3 before Mirza and Hingis served out the championship, clinching the title on the title on their fourth match point when a Muguruza backhand floated wide.

The Swiss-Indo pairing never dropped a set in Singapore. In fact, they only have dropped two sets in their last 22 matches, a streak that began with the U.S. Open title and continued through Guangzhou, Wuhan and Beijing.

Hingis and Mirza, who began their partnership this March, earned two major titles during the season and clinched the WTA’s year-end ranking this week in Singapore.

Though the pairing is new for Hingis and Mirza, Mirza was actually defending champion at the event. She won the title last year partnering with Cara Black. Hingis is now a three-time WTA Finals champion. She last won the title in 2000.

"I feel like it was a perfect day," Hingis said. "Sania just played out of her mind - she was everywhere today, getting everything back and playing incredible tennis."

"On court, off court, we have a lot of fun," Mirza said. "To play in tournaments like this is what we've fought all our lives for and it's incredible to play in front of a packed stadium.”
