Venus Williams powered into the Zhuhai final with her 40th win of the season today. The top seed will play for another milestone tomorrow.

Williams broke serve six times dismissing Roberta Vinci 6-2, 6-2, in 65 minutes. Williams said the result was tougher than the scoreline suggests.

''I'm very honored to be in the first final in Zhuhai. Today wasn't an easy match,'' Williams said. ''Every game was really well-contested and she never gave me any points. She's had a great year. I felt like I really earned it today.''

The 35-year-old American can clinch a year-end Top 10 ranking for the first time in five years by beating 13th-ranked Karolina Pliskova in tomorrow's final.

The third-seeded Czech hit six aces and did not drop serve defeating Elina Svitolina in today's semifinal. Pliskova raised her record to 4-0 against the world No. 20 from Ukraine.

Williams beat Vinci for the second time in a month—she saved a match point edging the 32-year-old Italian in the Wuhan semifinals last month—registering her 40th match victory of 2015. It is the first time in seven years the former No. 1 has won 40 matches in a single season.

Nine of Williams' 40 wins have come in China. The Wuhan champion will play for her third title of the season and 48th of her career against the 23-year-old Pliskova in their first career meeting.

''China's been good to me this year,'' Williams said. ''I played well in Wuhan, and now another final here in Zhuhai, and I hope I can win one more match. It won't be easy—I'm looking forward to it.''
