Neither rain nor a familiar nemesis could stop Tomas Berdych from collecting his 11th career title.

The top-seeded Berdych beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, 6-3, 7-6 (7) in the Shenzhen Open final.

It is Berdych's first title since he won Stockholm last year.

Rain pushed the scheduled Sunday final to today. Berdych built a 5-2 lead before another shower forced a 45-minute delay. When play resumed, Berdych quickly closed out the first set.

The fourth-seeded Garcia-Lopez scored his lone break to take a 3-1 second-set lead.

Berdych broke back, saved a set point at 5-6 in the tie break and sealed the title with a forehand return. Berdych, who beat Garcia-Lopez at the US Open last month, is now 4-3 against the 32-year-old Spaniard.

"It was another challenge to finally get the trophy," said Berdych. "It was a very close match today. I'm really happy with the way I started. I was very focused and very sharp from the beginning.

"Then I lost my serve. He played a couple of good, crazy shots to get his break. But I managed to break him back and get the second set into a tie break. The tie break was really up and down, but I think my experience was the decider for today. I'm very happy to win like that."
