When the last arrow is let fly, there will be only one winner at the Aegon Open in Nottingham. Played in Robin Hood’s back yard, the grass-court event will feature a final that pits two dart-throwers who love the grass—Sam Querrey and Denis Istomin.

Querrey battled past Alexandr Dolgopolov, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, to reach his 14th ATP final on Friday to improve his career record on grass to 39-24. In the quarterfinals the American had to save two match points to get past the ever feisty Gilles Simon.

Querrey bashed 22 aces and saved both break points he faced in the third set to even his lifetime record against the Ukranian at 2-2. He becomes the first American man to reach a grass-court final since 2012 with the win (Roddick, Eastbourne; Isner, Newport).

His opponent in the final, Denis Istomin, advanced when Marcos Baghdatis had to retire with a calf injury after three games.

Istomin is into his third career final and has yet to win a title. Querrey leads the pair’s lifetime head-to-head, 4-2.
