Andy Murray didn’t let a rain delay postpone him from earning a milestone in his career at the Western and Southern Open. The top seed also finds himself in the elite eight at the ATP 1000 event in Cincinnati.

ATP: Coric Defeats Weary Nadal

Murray faced off against Kevin Anderson in their third round match Thursday night. Anderson entered having beaten Murray in their last meeting at the 2015 US Open.

Rain delayed the match for over an hour with only two points played. When the players returned, Murray and Anderson traded easy service game holds.

Anderson claimed the first service break for 3-2 after Murray double faulted down break point. Murray responded by raising his level in the next game. That included several winners including a perfect backhand lob and then a forehand passing shot to break back for 3-all.

Murray secured another break late in the set. The recent Olympic gold medalist then secured the set 6-3 after an Anderson forehand error.

Murray enjoyed a more routine second set. With stronger returning, Murray broke Anderson twice before closing out the 6-3, 6-2 win.

With the result, Murray posted his 600th career ATP victory. He’s only the fifth active player to achieve the feat and the 24th player overall in the Open Era.

Murray will now face Bernard Tomic in the quarterfinals.
