Belinda Bencic continues to press for a top-10 ranking. The 18-year-old Swiss, currently No. 11 in the world, reached the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy with a 7-6(3), 6-3 win over Germany’s Annika Beck.

Bencic struggled to take momentum early, tossing in six double-faults in a shaky first set and allowing Beck to serve for the opener. But Bencic broke, forced a tiebreaker and went on to win the set despite 24 unforced errors.

Bencic broke three times on six opportunities to take the second set and book her spot in the last eight, where she’ll face either Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or Carina Withoeft.

Another 18-year-old, Daria Kasatkina of Russia, also advanced to the quarterfinals. The 2014 Roland Garros Girls singles champion defeated lucky loser Laura Siegemund, 6-3, 6-4, to reach her third tour-level quarterfinal and first of this season.

Kasatkina will face Dominika Cibulkova next. The Slovakian barreled past third-seeded Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 7-5.
