Novak Djokovic had his stay at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships cut short due to injury on Thursday. The Serb, suffering from what appeared to be an eye injury, was forced to retire after dropping the first set to Feliciano Lopez.

Djokovic who was broken in the first game of the match and sought the assistance of the trainer after the third game, seemed to be struggling with his vision, perhaps due to an eye abrasion. He elected to continue to play but struggled to find his form.

After surrendering a second break to drop the set he promptly retired from the match, ending his undefeated season and snapping his run of consecutive finals at 17.

We’ll have more on Djokovic’s condition as details emerge.
