Richard Gasquet weathered a storm of Dustin Brown winners in the early going and battled back from a set down to reach his fourth consecutive final at the Open Sud de France on Saturday.

Gasquet’s 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph sets and all-French final with 34-year-old Paul-Henri Mathieu on Sunday.

Gasquet survived a lethal onslaught by Brown in the first set and a half and eventually rallied from 3-0 down in set two to take the next five games. The Frenchman would save a break point while serving at 5-4 and then converted his first set point to level at a set apiece.

Fully in stride, Gasquet would break for 2-1 in set three then add a break to finish his victory, converting his 4th match point when Brown netted a forehand at the one hour and 40 minute mark.

In the earlier semifinal Mathieu took advantage of an Alexander Zverev mistake in a marathon tiebreak and marched on to a 7-6(11), 7-5 victory over the 18-year-old German.

Zverev, bidding for his first career final, had a look at set point in a see-saw tiebreaker but dumped an easy volley into the net to open the door for the veteran to slip through.

The victory places Mathieu into his tenth career final. Gasquet, who improves to 16-3 lifetime at Montpellier, is into his 25th career final. Gasquet owns a 5-2 edge over Mathieu and has won their last two matches.
