Sam Querrey emerged from the third all-American final in the Delray Beach Open’s 24-year history with a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory over Rajeev Ram. The victory is Querrey’s first title in nearly four years, and his eighth overall.

Querrey stroked 10 aces and broke Ram three times in his four break opportunities to gain a slight edge in the close encounter.

The 28-year-old world No. 61 was broken in his first service game of each set and trailed 5-2 in the second-set tiebreaker, but he battled back each time and eventually finished the match with a sparkling running forehand pass that Ram challenged to no avail.

“The thing I’m a little more disappointed about is I couldn’t quite keep momentum when I felt like I had it, and I had it in both sets,” Ram said.

Querrey improves to 8-7 lifetime in finals with his win. Eleven of his 15 finals and six of his eight titles have been won on home soil.

“The thing I’m a little more disappointed about is I couldn’t quite keep momentum when I felt like I had it, and I had it in both sets,” Ram said.
