Williams has not dropped a set stretching her winning streak to six matches, which includes her two singles wins leading the United States to a Fed Cup victory over Poland last weekend in Hawaii.
The former world No. 1 will play for her 49th career title when she takes on Misaki Doi in tomorrow's final.
"I've never played her before," Williams said. "I have no idea what to expect. But to be in the final you have to play well, so I'm sure to expect the best tennis from her."
The second-seeded Doi dissected Su-Wei Hsieh, 6-0, 6-2, in 54 minutes.
The 35-year-old American burst out to a 4-1 lead before Putintseva battled back to level at 5-all. Williams exploited a couple of Putintseva errors to earn the crucial break and take the opening set.
Williams won four of the last five games to seal her sixth straight victory.
