Eugenie Bouchard improved to 6-1 in 2016 with a confidence inspiring 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Dominika Cibulkova to reach her first WTA final since October, 2014 on Friday in Hobart.

Bouchard’s victory sets up a final with France’s Alize Cornet.

The Canadian has now won four matches in succession for the first time since last year’s Australian Open. In a tailspin for much of 2015, things went from bad to worse when Bouchard slipped and fell on a wet locker room floor at the U.S. Open. The accident caused a concussion and all but ended her season as she was unable to complete a match after that.

But the 21-year-old seems to be in good health and good spirits this season, and is looking like one of the more dangerous floaters in the women’s singles draw at next week’s Australian Open.

"The first set was a great level for me - I can't remember the last time I played that well,” Bouchard said of Friday’s victory, according to WTATennis.com. “Now the important thing is to keep that consistency.”

Cornet wasn’t tested on Friday. She slipped past Sweden’s Johanna Larsson, 6-1, 6-1, to book a spot in her tenth career WTA final.

The Frenchwoman, a four-time WTA titlist, has faced Bouchard three times, losing the last two.

Bouchard, who will bid for her second career title in her fifth final, is just happy to be in the mix again. "I'm just so happy to be back on the court,” she said. “That's the most important thing - I'm so grateful and excited to be back playing on the tour again.”
