Brown, who also reached the Bastad quarterfinals last week, saved the match points at 5-6, 15-40, unbeknownst to him. "I didn't even know he had match points," Brown said, according to ATWorldTour.com. "I just remember the 0/30 point. I've lost matches where I've had match points myself so I know it's not easy, but he's a very good player and at the end I got my rhythm... It was a very good third set and I'm very happy."
Bellucci, a two-time defending champion at Gstaad, had a seven-match winning streak heading into the match after winning the Braunschweig Challenger and two Davis Cup matches.
Brown will face seventh-seeded Mikhail Youzhny in the quarterfinals. The German improved to 4-0 vs. left-handed players with his win over Bellucci, and 10-7 on the season.
Youzhny defeated Mirza Basic of Bosnia, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 on Thursday. Dutchman Robin Haase also reached the Gstaad quarterfinals with a 7-6(5), 6-4 win over Horacio Zeballos.
