The WTA International event in Washington, D.C. saw many seeded players lose early in the week. In the end, Yanina Wickmayer found herself the last woman standing.

The Belgian capped off a stellar week at the Citi Open by winning both singles and doubles titles.

Wickmayer faced off in Sunday’s singles final against American Lauren Davis. Both women knocked out several seeded players to get to the final.

Wickmayer edged out No. 4 seed Kristina Mladenovic and No. 6 seed Yulia Putintseva. Davis beat No. 3 seed Monica Puig en route to her first ever WTA final.

Wickmayer remained in control throughout the final played in hot conditions. After taking the first set, Wickmayer jumped out to 5-0 lead in the second set. Davis fought back though and saved two match points. Davis won a few more games, but Wickmayer’s lead proved too big to overcome down the stretch.

Wickmayer soon closed out the 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Washington is Wickmayer’s first singles title of the year and her fifth career title overall.

Earlier in the week, Wickmayer partnered with Monica Niculescu to claim the doubles title. They defeated the all-Japanese team of Shuko Aoyama and Risa Osaki 6-4, 6-3.
