No. 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska nearly joined the ranks of several seeded players who exited Wimbledon Thursday before turning around her second round match.

The former finalist in 2012 saved three match points against 18-year-old Ana Konjuh of Croatia who served for the match twice in the final set on Court No. 2.

“If you see players who won a Grand Slam, they always have something like this on the way,” Radwanska said about her escape from near-defeat. “Sometimes it's a little bit easier to play after when you know that you probably shouldn't even be here any more. Let's see. But definitely those kind of matches are tough. If you can come back, it's great. But I don't know if anything changes in the way to the second week. So we'll see.”

Radwanska easily won the first set 6-2 and seemed poised for an easy day. But the big-hitting Konjuh found her game in the second set. The Croatian secured a late break of serve and then later served things out to force a deciding set.

The World No. 103 Konjuh looked in control of her destiny when she went up an early break in the third set. Konjuh, who held her first match point while up 5-3, battled her nerves. Soon, Radwanska saved the point to continue the match.

Another match point for Konjuh came and went. So did a third when a Konjuh forehand shot clipped the net and fell back on her side of the court. Eventually, Radwanska leveled things at 5-all. But again Konjuh broke the Polish No. 1 and had another chance to serve it out.

At 6-5, Konjuh again couldn’t close it out and now found herself in an extended set.

Tied later at 7-all, Konjuh raced into the near court to chase down a short Radwanska shot. But Konjuh overran things, stepped onto the ball, and ended up turning her ankle.

A distraught Konjuh received a medical time out. With her ankle heavily taped, Konjuh bravely continued the match but had limited mobility.

Radwanska held serve for 8-7 and then made her move. With a trademark drop shot, Radwanska soon secured several match points. Radwanska soon finished off the hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 9-7 win. A disappointed Konjuh left the crowd to appreciative applause from the crowd.

Next up for Radwanska is Katerina Siniakova in the third round. Siniakova knocked out No. 30 seed Caroline Garcia of France.
