A lot of players have come and gone from the press room in the first two days of the Championships, and we’ve decided that now is a good time to round up some of the best and brightest quotes:

-- Juan Martin del Potro is playing it very smart with his wrist, which is why he is slowly integrating his two-handed backhand while mostly hitting slices—at least for now. Here’s his explanation of his current injury situation after winning his first match at Wimbledon in three years.

“I would like to get better faster than I'm doing now, but that could be dangerous for my body. I'm working hard mentally, too, because I have to deal with some pains and some frustrations when I want to hit a good backhands and I cannot do it. This year will be more like to come back on tour, to feel the pressure of tennis. I hope to be ready for being aggressive player on next season.”

-- Italy’s Roberta Vinci is obviously feeling good about Italy’s chances of winning at Euro 16. Here’s what she had to say about them. “We won. C'mon. Good.”

-- 18-year-old Taylor Fritz, who fell in four sets to Stan Wawrinka on Day 2, explained why he doesn’t want to play Challengers any more if he can avoid it.

“The whole reasoning for the ATP clay season was just because I felt like it would give me the most experience, and it did. I think I could potentially be higher ranked if I wanted to spend my time playing challengers because I don't really have any points to defend, you know, from two months ago to October after US Open. So I'm just trying to do what's best for my game. I think that's staying at this level and playing against these better players and improving.”

--We all had a good laugh when Serena Williams gave this reply to the question of whether she still felt fresh and eager at this point in her career. “I would be lying if I said I feel fresh,” she said, “but I don't feel fatigue. I don't think I feel fresh, but I feel real hungry, super motivated, extremely ready to do the best.”

--Funny answer from Nick Kyrgios, who told reporters today that Radek Stepanek was a good friend of his. When asked if he thought it might be Radek’s last Wimbledon, Kyrgios replied: “I hope he plays, but I don't want to play him again.”

--Richard Gasquet has a good sense of humor about his racquet-wrapping skills. If you’ve never noticed, the Frenchman wraps his racquet at every changeover and numerous videos have been taken of his hyper-fast technique. He’s widely considered to be the best racquet-wrapper of all-time. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“Of course, I'm the fastest to do it. I'm sure about it. I didn't win a Grand Slam, but to do that I'm the best. Sure about it.”

--Marcus Willis may be No.772 in the world, but he’s got a No.1 type of sense of humor. When asked to explain the prospect of facing Roger Federer in the second round he cracked a good one. “I'm not sure he can play on grass. That's good.”

--Love this answer from Italy’s Camila Giorgi, when she was asked if she had a plan for her first-round match against Garbiñe Muguruza. “Today? No, no.”

--Milos Raonic is pretty good about wearing his mouth guard and keeping track of where they are (he told reporters he has two or three), but he is not very good when he eats. “I'm pretty protective of my mouth guard, though, but at least it stays in my mouth all day, other than when I eat. I have had to go through garbage cans a few times.”

--Venus Williams did a great job of explaining how she believes in the endless summer.

“You know, I don't think anyone feels older,” she said. “You have this infinity inside of you that feels like you could go forever. That's how I feel on the court. As long as I'm halfway decent, can get my racquet on the ball, I think I can make something happen. So far so good.”
