First there was no Roger Federer. Then there was no Juan Martin del Potro. Both big names disappeared off the drawsheet on Friday in Miami as Roger Federer withdrew from his second-round match with del Potro due to a stomach virus, leaving Argentinean journeyman Horacio Zeballos in his place.

Zeballos, who had not won a tour-level match this season, promptly dismissed Del Potro from the draw, 6-4, 6-4, in a match that saw Del Potro struggle with his left wrist once again. The 27-year-old sought the advice of a trainer after the first set, and appeared to be visibly worried about the wrist, which has undergone three surgeries in the last year.

For the remainder of the match Del Potro reverted to hitting only backhand slice. His opponent took advantage of the handicap, breaking on his only opportunity of the second set while dropping only nine points on serve over the course of the one hour and 21-minute match.

Zeballos will move on to face Fernando Verdasco in the third round. Verdasco took out Jeremy Chardy, 6-4, 6-4.

Other winners on Friday afternoon in Miami were 11th-seeded Marin Cilic (d. Lajovic), 14th-seeded Dominic Thiem (d. Groth), 15th-seeded David Goffin (d. Granollers), 18th-seeded Gilles Simon (d. Monaco), 19th-seeded Viktor Troicki (d. Cervantes) and 20th-seeded Benoit Paire (d. Youzhny).

7th-seeded Tomas Berdych advanced via walkover when Rajeev Ram pulled out with an injury.

21st-seeded Feliciano Lopez and 32nd-seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez were upset.
